As part of this step, researchers from across the life sciences commit to taking an active role in shaping the public dialog on animal research and imparting relevant knowledge.

In Rain Man's Synapses: Molecular consequences of autism mutations in the SHANK3 gene elucidated.
An international team of researchers led by Dr. Michael R. Kreutz and Dr. Marina Mikhaylova from the Leibniz Institute of Neurobiology Magdeburg (LIN), the Center for Molecular Neurobiology Hamburg (ZMNH) and Humboldt University Berlin, and Dr. Eunjoon Kim from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) has deciphered the molecular-level effects of mutations in the autism risk gene SHANK3.

ECN PI Michael Brecht New Member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities
Together with 13 other personalities from science,ECN PI Michael Brecht from the Bernstein Center Berlin was appointed to the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The newly elected members received their membership certificates on the occasion of the Academy's Leibniz Day celebration on June 5, 2021.

After Nature: Humboldt Lab Opens Inaugural Exhibition
On 20th July 2021, the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin will be opening the Humboldt Lab with its inaugural exhibition “After Nature”. The exhibition in the Humboldt Forum deals with the interactions between climate change and biodiversity loss as well as the global crises of democratic principles of order. It draws on a wide array of voices from scientific research in order to address the effects of man-made changes to the global environment. The title of the exhibition refers in equal measure to both the destruction of species and ecosystems and the idea of “learning from nature”.
