CSB Paper of the Month 05/2026: Long-term memory reorganization of navigational episodes
When we navigate through the world, we spontaneously form mental maps of our surroundings—whether of buildings, cities, or entire landscapes. Yet little is known about whether and how these representations change over long, biographically relevant periods of time. For practical reasons, most previous studies on spatial memory have been limited to timescales ranging from a few hours to several months. Our study addressed this gap by examining memory for real-world navigation experiences across intervals spanning from six days to three decades.
